Checks

The checks look at a revision of an estimate and list what is missing or looks wrong. Each issue has a severity:

SeverityWhat it means
BlockingFix it before the bid goes out. A revision with a blocking issue cannot be marked as submitted, unless a user who may override gives a reason
WarningProbably a mistake. Check it
InformationWorth a look

What you see depends on your role. If the menu, a button or a setting on this page is missing, ask your administrator to give you the permission listed above or to turn on the feature. Only administrators can turn features on and change site settings.

Read the checks

The top of the page shows the revision and how many blocking issues and warnings it has. Each row shows:

  • What the issue is, such as 2 lines have no quantity.
  • Its severity and its rule code, such as EST-007.
  • For issues about lines, the first lines, as links that open the workspace on each line.
  • A button that opens what the issue is about: the first line, the quote package, the takeoff item, the document, the recap or the settings.

To show one severity only, pick it in the list above the issues. The checks run each time you open the page; click Check again after you fix something.

What is checked

RuleSeverityWhat it finds
EST-001BlockingThe revision has no lines
EST-002BlockingLines with an item or an assembly that is not in the catalog
EST-003WarningLines with an item that has no price on the pricing date. A line whose material is in a quote is not counted
EST-004WarningLines with an item that has no labor unit
EST-005BlockingLines that could not be calculated: an assembly formula failed, or assemblies contain each other
EST-006WarningLines with a quantity that cost nothing
EST-007WarningLines with no quantity
EST-010BlockingThe lines have labor hours, but the revision has no labor rate
EST-020WarningA takeoff item of the project with a quantity that no line uses
EST-021WarningLines that take their quantity from a takeoff item that was deleted
EST-022WarningA takeoff item with marks on sheets that have no scale, so they measure nothing
EST-030WarningA quote package that carries its placeholder, because no quote is selected
EST-031BlockingA quote package that carries nothing: no quote is selected and the placeholder is zero
EST-032WarningThe selected quote leaves scope items out without a plug
EST-033WarningThe selected quote was valid until a day before the pricing date
EST-040WarningLines with prices older than the price age of the settings, through the items of their assemblies
EST-050BlockingThe profit is below the lowest profit of the settings
EST-051WarningThe profit is above the highest profit of the settings
EST-060BlockingAn addendum was added to the project after the revision was made, so the revision may not include it. Add a revision that prices it
EST-070WarningAn alternate has no lines

Submit a revision with blocking issues

When a revision has blocking issues, the Revisions page does not show Mark as submitted. A user with the permission to submit estimate revisions with blocking issues sees Reason to submit with blocking issues instead:

  1. Enter the reason, such as The labor rate is in the bid form.
  2. Click Mark as submitted with blocking issues.

The history of the revision shows the reason, who gave it, when, and the codes of the blocking issues. Without a reason, the page refuses and opens the checks.

Change the limits

An administrator sets the limits of the checks in Settings > Estimates, in the Checks card. This needs the permission to manage the estimate approval and check settings.

SettingWhat it does
Prices are old after (days)The age, on the pricing date, from which a price is old (rule EST-040). 90 by default. Enter 0 to not check the age of prices
Lowest profit (%)A revision with less profit has a blocking issue (rule EST-050). Measured as the recap sets it: a markup on the cost with overhead, or a margin of the price
Highest profit (%)A revision with more profit has a warning (rule EST-051)
