Estimates
An estimate prices a project. Most projects have one, the base bid. Add more when you price parts of the work apart, such as an alternate or a later phase. Each estimate has its own lines, its own breakdown and its own pricing and labor settings.
| Menu | Estimator > Projects, open a project, then Estimates in the Estimates card |
| Permission | View all projects and bids to see the estimates. Manage own projects and bids, or Manage all projects and bids, to add, change and delete them |
| Feature | Estimator Estimates |
What you see depends on your role. If the menu, a button or a setting on this page is missing, ask your administrator to give you the permission listed above or to turn on the feature. Only administrators can turn features on and change site settings.
The project page shows the Estimates card, with the total of each estimate. Click an estimate to open its workspace.
Add an estimate
- On the project page, click Add estimate in the Estimates card.
- Enter the Name, such as Base bid or Alternate 1. Two estimates of one project cannot have the same name.
- In Bid, select the general contractor or owner the estimate prices for, or leave No bid.
- Click Save. The workspace of the new estimate opens.
A new estimate takes the labor rate and the labor factors of the job conditions of the project. When the project has no job conditions, the estimate has no labor rate until you set one.
The list of estimates
The Estimates page lists the estimates of the project with their revision, their number of lines and their total. Point to the total to see the material, the labor and the hours. Click Open to open the workspace, Edit to change the name, the bid or the description, and Delete to delete the estimate and all of its lines.
Pricing and labor settings
In the workspace, click Settings.
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Pricing date | The day the prices are taken from. Each item takes the price in effect on that day. Leave it empty to take today's prices. |
| Labor column | The column of labor units the hours come from: Normal, Difficult or Very difficult. |
| Labor rate per hour | The cost of one labor hour. The page tells you when the rate comes from the job conditions. |
The page also lists the labor factors of the whole estimate and of labor categories. The job conditions set them. Click Save and calculate to save the settings and calculate every line again.
When you change the job conditions of the project, click Take the job conditions again. The estimate takes the labor rate and factors of the job conditions again, and every line is calculated again.
